Finally arrived

We were so thrilled to get a direct flight from Dulles to Copenhagen — no slogging kids and luggage between terminals! We forgot to anticipate the hazards of flying on an airline that has only a single flight departing daily. Our flight ended up being delayed for five hours.

The kids did as best they could, and actually really enjoyed running around Dulles.

The flight was predictably torturous with two small children, though they held it together at least 75% of the time. And after we figured out how to buy tickets (for those using Copenhagen public transit in the future, “Ö” is a completely different letter if the alphabet than “O”), we we’re in our neighborhood and cosy in our rented apartment.

(Sorry for the image rotation issues — posting this from my iPhone.)

Greg has some great photos that he will upload but the photos that sold us on the property on Airbnb were accurate — this flat is magical. The kids played in the fabulous children’s room (Legos galore!) and I learned that Ellie really loves playing with baby dolls! Fantastically efficient and stylist, and you can tell they are really celebrating and savoring their kids. It’s incredibly inspiring. Evan couldn’t sleep because he “loves this house so much and wishes he could live here forever.”

We all took it slow today, but made it out to a restaurant called “the Laundromat.” We played a game at the table of Evan’s devising — he won obviously.

We are all conking out now but are really excited to go into the city and explore the sites. Evan’s sleeping in a bunk bed for the first time ever so keep your fingers crossed that it doesn’t include a trip to the ER!

Goodnight, Copenhagen!
