It was a lovely day yesterday — clear skies and crisp weather. We woke up early (and I erroneously thought we’d made this amazingly smooth, superhuman time zone transition) and had breakfast in our beautiful kitchen.
We took the bus from our street to the train station at Østerport and then just one stop south for some great touristy stuff! The market at Torvehallerne was amazing — I secretly/out loud wished that Greg and I were there by ourselves so we could linger. It’s a fancier, more upscale version of our local fancy food market, Union Market. We did get a croissant which made Evan really happy!
Hers a photo of what I wish we got for lunch — smørrebrød, an open face sandwich — but we opted for closed faced for obvious reasons!
Rosenborg Slot, the home of Christian IV and his descendents, was juts a shot walk away. The ground were beautiful and it couldn’t have been a more beautiful day outside. The kids found a tree that was full of ladybugs and loved running around in the green grass. Many families and young people we’re out enjoying the sunshine and a few were even getting the weekend started early 🙂
After the castle tour, we headed down to Nyhavn which is the old, cobblestone port area of the city. Folks dangled their feet over the edge of the canal, drinking bottles of beer and socializing, and all the restaurants lining the canal had heated outdoor seating. It was the liveliest area we’ve seen so far, yet still very friendly and G rated. That being said Evan is still the loudest talker in the city.
We took a canal tour from this area and got some amazing views!
The kids were exhausted as we walked home but perked up at the little neighborhood playground we encountered. Ellie fell asleep on the way home so we were able to have a nice dinner at Pixie, a restaurant around the corner from the house. It was so fantastic to sit on the heated patio with beer and a cheese plate and enjoy the quiet evening (yes, it was still quiet on a Saturday night!). Evan even napped on my lap for a bit.
Except for the fact that the kids were up until 1am (NOT adjusted for the time difference it turns out), the day was perfection.
